It’s that time of year again. A new semester has started, winter is well and truly here and the HOPE crew is gearing up for another semester of volunteerism and advocacy for Rhode Island’s homeless community. The HOPEsters have all come back refreshed and recharged from our winter breaks, and we’re gearing up for what promises to be a very eventful semester.
We’re really excited to welcome Allison Woodworth to the HOPE leadership team, Allison will join Jana as a Community Fellow for the semester, and we’re delighted to have her on board.
HOPE meets for the first time this semester on February 2, in the Swearer Center conference room at 7pm, and every Monday at 7pm thereafter. All Brown students are welcome and encouraged to come along and hear all about the programs we have to offer. In the meantime, check out our programs page to learn more about the opportunities HOPE has to offer, and contact us if you have any questions. You can also come say hello to Allison and Jana at next week’s Community Service Opportunities Fair, in the Kasper Multipurpose Room from 7pm-9pm.
Allison, Jana and Victor were delighted to have attended DARE’s annual brunch today. The lovely group at DARE is celebrating 28 years of service for social justice, in defiance of racism, sexism, capitalism and imperialism. We’re proud to celebrate one year of community partnership with DARE. We look forward to continuing to work as part of the No One Leaves door knocking team, and as part of the Tenant and Homeowner Association team.
The Zero:2016 campaign is well underway and the good folks at the RI Coalition for the Homeless are working tirelessly to secure 2,016 endorsements for their campaign to end chronic and veterans’ homelessness by 2016. Head to bit.ly/EndorseZ16 to show your support. The Advocacy Committee is working closely with RICH to strategise for the current legislative season. More to follow soon!
We could go on and on, as there’s so much good stuff coming up, but we’ll leave you for now. Stay tuned for more news and updates from the HOPE bloggers as the semester progresses, and check out the calendar to learn about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. Here’s to a happy, productive semester, from the HOPE leadership team!
