Our first outing this year to the City Meal Site at All Saints Memorial Church was as rewarding as it was freezing. After the 30 minute trek through the snow, Jana, new HOPE member Kayla Thomas, and I got to work serving food and drinks, as well as busing tables and of course chatting away with people. It was much slower this Tuesday than the regular non-stop environment, giving us a chance to get acquainted with new people. Director Mike was his usual friendly, joking self and sent us home with left over bread (although he refused to take a picture with us no matter how much we begged).
To any newcomer or current member considering volunteering with City Meal Site, I can 99.9% guarantee you will love it (it does get cold in these winter months). Honestly, it’s one of the best things I’ve done at Brown so far. You get to meet great people, hear their stories, and actually feel like you are doing something worthwhile. If nothing else it’s a great way to get off campus and explore the city! Please join us any Tuesday of the month!
HOPEsters volunteer every Tuesday 4pm-5.30pm. We meet at JWW at 3.30 to walk down the hill. This is not a semester commitment. Come once a month, every Tuesday, or when your seminar gets canceled! If you are interested email Jana or Allison to sign up.
